Record Access
From 31st October 2023 you may be able to have access to your GP held records via the NHS App or NHS website
We have been asked by NHS England to provide you with access to your full medical record from 31 October 2023 via the NHS app and/or the NHS website if you have a suitable NHS login.
We are supportive of providing you with access to your records, but we wish to do this safely. We have an obligation under General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) to safeguard the information we hold about you and have carried out a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) to make sure we are able to legally honour our data safeguarding obligations.
We believe, and are supported by the British Medical Association (BMA) , that there are insufficient safeguards in place so we will not be automatically allowing patients access to their records after 31 October 23.
Everyone will have access to their medication history and allergies and will be able to order their repeat prescriptions (subject to you having NHS login).
If you should require access to your full record where you will be able to see everything, including the notes which have been written by doctors, nurses and others involved in your care at the Practice and elsewhere, we ask you to complete the application form, available from the Practice in order for your request can be assessed by your GP. Remember, you will only see your records from the date of your application, access will not typically be available for historic patient records.
Update on Patient Record Data Sharing
Between February and April 2025, and periodically thereafter, we are/will be conducting an audit of all our patient records to ensure data sharing settings are up-to-date. Our goal is to enable the data sharing function on all patient records, unless you have explicitly informed us that you do not want this enabled.
Why is this important?
Enabling data sharing allows us to receive and share information from and to other healthcare providers about care you have received. This may include hospitals, community providers, or even Erewash group services such as the On Day Service or Phlebotomy. This means that when you come to the GP practice for an appointment, or any other healthcare provider, we will have a comprehensive view of your health history, helping make better-informed decisions about your care. Without this information, we risk delivering sub-optimal care.
Your Choices:
– If you do not want us to receive your healthcare records from a specific provider(s) you have used, you can request that healthcare provider to not to share your information external to them. This will mean that your record will not be sent to us, but records from other providers will still be able to reach us.
– Alternatively, if you do not want any information to be shared with us from any other healthcare provider, or any of your records to be shared with other healthcare providers, you can contact our reception to amend your data sharing settings. Please note that if data sharing for the practice is not enabled, it will disable record sharing for all records outside of our GP practice, and your GP, or GP Practice staff will not be able to see your full health care record when interacting with you
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us provide the best possible care.
Thank you
